Slovakian National Record Holder Jakub Poliacik Sends Verbal to Virginia Tech

NEW COMMIT: Virginia Tech has received another verbal commitment for the 2024-25 season and beyond from Jakub Poliacik of Bratislava, Slovakia.

He will join Danny Bishop as a member of the Hokies’ Class of 2028.

He told Swimming World:

“I couldn’t be more excited to announce my verbal commitment to VirginiaTech. I am so happy that I will continue my athletic and academic journey there starting fall 2024. Big thank you goes to my parents, coach, friends. Thanks to VirginiaTech coaches for this great opportunity and one extra to @subicule for guiding me on the right path. Go Hokies!”
Poliacik trains with XBS Swimming and specializes in freestyle. He finished 11th in the 200m free, 13th in the 800m free and 18th in the 400m free at the FINA World Junior Championships last summer. Back in December, he competed at the FINA World Short Course Championships.
At the 2021 Orca Cup, the then-16-year-old took fifth in the men’s 200 free to set a new Slovakian National Junior Record. He also set the 200 short course meter free national record in 2022 and is a member of three national record relays.

In LCM, his best times include:

  • 200m free – 1:50.92
  • 400m free – 3:59.19
  • 800m free  – 8:18.67

In SCY, those times convert to:

  • 200 free – 1:37.05
  • 500 free – 4:27.04
  • 1000 free – 9:16.01
