Sharae Zheng Breaks Record on Day Two of Mountain West Championships

Day two of the 2018 Mountain West Swimming and Diving Championships was highlighted by Nevada’s Sharae Zheng dominating the women’s 3-meter diving, breaking her own conference and meet record.

Women’s 4×50 Freestyle Relay

Boise State dominated the opening event of day two of competition, winning by over one second. The team of Abbey Sorenson (22.37), Emmie Jennings (22.46), Robin Pinger (22.33) and Allyson Kleinsorgen (22.23) finished with a final time of 1:29.39.

San Diego’sKlara Thormalm, Alma Thormalm, Peyton Wilson and Summer Harrison finished second in 1:30.57 while UNLV’s Caitlyn Schreiber, Katsuaryna Afanasyeva, Sydney Schuette and Sofia Carnevale took third in 1:31.39.

Women’s 3-Meter Diving

After winning the 1-meter last night, Nevada’s Sharae Zheng dominated the 3-meter this evening for the third-straight year. The senior posted a score of 424.53, breaking her own Mountain West meet and all-time record she set last year.

Wyoming’s Karla Contreras dove to second with 340.14 points while Fresno’s Serena Sedillo took third with a score of 329.10.

UNLV’s Mykayla Fielding (315.90), San Diego’s Alexandra Caplan (306.06), Nevada’s Zoe Lei (279.00), San Diego’s Nicole Dutton (274.92) and Air Force’s Eve Fowler (207.78) rounded out the top eight.

Women’s 500 Free

Boise State’s Emma Chard charged her way to first place, knocking off over two seconds from her prelim swim. The senior touched the wall in 4:43.04.

San Diego’s Mckenna Meyer grabbed second in 4:44.71 and Colorado State’s Haley Rowley finished third in 4:45.67.

New Mexico’s Adriana Palomino (4:45.74), Boise State’s Hill Hayley (4:45.94), Boise State’s Lucia Davis (4:48.15), UNLV’s Ida Schutt (4:48.24) and Boise State’s Alyssa Schultz (4:51.81) also swam in the A-final.

Women’s 200 IM

It was a close battle between first and second, but San Diego’s Frida Berggren used a strong freestyle leg to get her hand on the wall first. The senior won gold in a time of 1:59.28.

Nevada’s Andressa Cholodovskis Lima grabbed silver in 1:59.40 and Boise State’s Emily Mathis earned bronze in 2:00.83.

Nevada’s Donna Depolo (2:01.49), Wyoming’s Samantha Burke (2:02.04), UNLV’s Kayla Phillips (2:02.16), Boise State’s Laura Williams (2:02.77) and Colorado State’s Madison Ward (2:03.28) completed the top eight.

Women’s 50 Free

After helping Boise State win a 4×50 free relay title, Sorensen dove back in the pool to win the Mountain West title in the individual 50 free. The junior splashed and dashed her way to a quick 22.53.

Wyoming’s Isobel Ryan finished second in 22.79 while San Diego’s Klara Thormalm took a close third in 22.80.

Boise State’s Kleinsorgen (22.82), San Jose’s Brittany Heng (22.85), Boise State’s Jennings (22.98), Colorado State’s Rowan Hauber (23.05) and Air Force’s Lydia Knutson (23.09) also earned top-eight finishes.
