Senior Daniel Kertesz, McKenzie Campbell Lead Georgia Tech Sweep

Wins by seniors Daniel Kertesz and McKenzie Campbell led Georgia Tech to a demonstrative sweep of Gardner-Webb on Saturday. The men’s team dominated to the tune of a 181-75 victory. The women prevailed by a 190-69 margin.

Kertesz celebrated his valedictory meet by wining the 200 freestyle and 100 free. He also swam a leg on the Yellow Jackets’ 200 medley relay.

Kertesz’s runner-up in the 200 free, Charles Perks, won the 500 free. Mert Kilavuz won the 1,000 free, less than a second ahead of teammate Sean Santos, and finished second in the 200 butterfly to Antonio Romero.

Berke Saka won the 100 individual medley in 47.63 after third-place finishes in the 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke, the Turkey international branching out. Second in the IM was 200 breast winner Nils Bognar. Christopher Richardson swept both backstroke events for Georgia Tech, with Romero second in the 200. Batur Unlu won the 100 fly after finishing as the runner-up in the 50 free, .04 seconds behind teammate David Gapinski.

Campbell took home the 200 fly and 100 IM. She went 57.56 in the latter clocked in at 2:03.87 to take home the former. The led out Lindsey Merk in the 200 fly, after Merk led off the winning 200 medley relay and took home third in the 100 fly.

Anna Hadjiloizou won the 50 free for Tech and was second in the 100 fly behind teammate Sabina Mrzyglod. Second in the 50 free was 100 back champ Ariana Dirkzwager.

Deniz Ertan was typically solid. She edged out Rei Kuramoto to win the 200 free, then the duo swapped places in the 200 back. Hadjiloizou was on both of the team’s winning relays, joining Zora Ripkova, the 100 free champ, on both foursomes. Ertan was on the 400 free champs.

Gardner-Webb’s only win came in the women’s 500 free, with Hailey Williams besting the field in 5:02.51.
