Santa Margarita Girls Post Dominating Victory at 2018 CIF Swimming & Diving Championships

The 2018 CIF Swimming & Diving Championships continued today in Fresno, California at the Clovis West High School.

The Santa Margarita girls garnered a total of 266.5 points to handily win the state championship title. Monte Vista, the 2017 state champions, posted a total of 159 points for second, while third went to the girls of Saint Francis High School (118.5).

1-Meter Diving

Savannah Stocker of El Toro collected a top score of 507.55 points to win the girls 1-meter diving event. Brooke Earley of Aliso Niguel turned in a 494.55 for second, while Santa Margarita’s Alexandra Barnes was third with a total of 480.95.

200 Medley Relay

Zoe Cosgrove (25.56), Natalie Bercutt (28.62), Mia Motekaitis (24.18), and Cody Hargadon (22.95) blasted Davis High School to a championship title in the 200 medley relay and a new California state record of 1:41.31. Their time took down the previous record of 1:41.76, set by Ventura in 2017.

The girls of Monte Vista also finished beneath the previous record, posting a final time of 1:41.71 for second, while Santa Margarita finished third with a 1:44.10.

Zoie Hartman maintained her first-place seed and continued to be the only swimmer beneath the two-minute mark. Hartman turned in a 1:55.95 to improve upon her prelims time of 1:58.32.

Valley Christian’s Mai Mckenna posted a 2:00.00 for second, while Granite Bay’s Chloe Clark took third with a 2:00.12.

Rio Americano’s Halladay Kinsey flew to victory in the 100 fly with a top showing of 52.98. Delgado followed up her 50 free silver with a silver in the 100 fly, posting a 53.80. Monte Vista’s Makenna Turner grabbed third with a 53.83.

The Santa Margarita relay team of Delgado (23.16), Marriott Hoffman (23.32), Mackenzie Degn (23.34), and Samantha Shelton (22.62) once again dashed to a dominant showing in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:32.44. Their time lowered the state record of 1:32.90, which was set in yesterday’s prelims.

The girls of Rio Americano took second overall with a time of 1:34.12, followed closely by Monte Vista’s 1:34.21.

Davis’ Zoe Cosgrove turned first at the 50 mark with a time of 25.91, but Granite Bay’s Chloe Clark turned up the heat in the second 50 to finish first with a 53.67. Cosgrove settled for second with a time of 54.12, followed closely by Los Altos’ Danielle Carter‘s 54.14.

Hartman followed up her 200 IM victory with a record-breaking swim in the 100 breast. Hartman snuck beneath the one-minute mark, posting a 59.66 to become the first female California high schooler to break the minute-mark at the state meet. Hartman had posted a 1:00.02 as the state record in prelims yesterday.

Lodi’s Gianni Pitto finished second overall with a 1:01.34, while Kristin Murphy of Christian Brothers took third with a 1:02.00.

The Santa Margarita girls added another relay title to their name to conclude the meet and secure their championship victory. The relay team of Delgado (50.27), Degn (49.99), Ristic, and Shelton posted a combined time of 3:19.56 to take down the state record of 3:20.03 from 2015.

Rio Americano grabbed second with a 3:23.10, ahead of Saint Francis’ third-place finish of 3:25.44.
