Robinson Secondary Sweeps Virginia 6A State High School Championships

Robinson Secondary won both the girls and boys meets at the 2016 Virginia 6A State High School Championships.

Girls

Robinson Secondary took home the 6A crown with 212 points.  Oakton took second with 171 points.  McLean (169), West Potomac (163) and Langley (152) rounded out the top five.

West Potomac’s Cassidy Bayer cranked out a 1:59.59 to win the 200-yard IM.  That missed her state record of 1:59.19 from last year.  Bayer doubled up with a 53.30 in the 100-yard fly.

Robinson’s Hannah Baker claimed the 50-yard free title in 23.41. Baker captured her second title with a 50.56 in the 100-yard free.

Oakton’s Megan Byrnes won the 200-yard free in a time of 1:49.13, off her 6A record of 1:48.61 from last year. Byrnes won her second title of the meet with a 4:46.81 in the 500-yard free.

Westfield’s Chloe Hicks won the 100-yard back in 55.32.

Chantilly’s Jacquee Clabeaux cranked out a 6A record in the 100-yard breast with a 1:01.51.  That swim beat her prelim record of 1:02.42.

West Potomac’s Alexandria Puskar-Beckett, Holly Jansen, Cassidy Bayer and Jenna Martin won the 200-yard medley relay with a 1:45.46.

Robinson’s Lisa Zangla, Grace Gartman, Livi Schmid and Hannah Baker snared the 200-yard free relay in 1:36.22.

Robinson’s Lisa Zangla, Grace Gartman, Livi Schmid and Hannah Baker also won the 400-yard free relay in 3:30.39.

Mount Vernon’s Hailey Fisher claimed the one-meter diving crown with 447.10 points.

Boys

Robinson Secondary won the 6A title with 235 points.  Langley (190), Patriot (178), McLean (161) and Woodson (146.5) finished second through fifth.

Robinson’s James Jones topped the 50-yard free in 20.48. Jones doubled with a 45.39 to win the 100-yard free.

Robinson’s James Murphy hit the wall in 1:37.42 to break the 6A record in the 200-yard free.  He clocked a 1:38.24 to set the time during prelims.  Murphy earned another win with a 48.99 in the 100-yard back.

Stonewall Jackson’s Sam Pomajevich set the 6A record in the 100-yard fly with a time of 48.84. That swim cleared Evan Baker’s 2014 mark of 49.23.

Langley’s Casey Storch won the 200-yard IM in 1:50.44.

West Springfield’s Lane Stone topped the 500-yard free in 4:27.64.

Patriot’s Spencer Rowe captured the 100-yard breast in 56.00.

Patriot’s Will Cumberland, Spencer Rowe, Cole Cooper and AJ Ross clocked a time of 1:32.88 in the 200-yard medley relay to lower the state and 6A record.  Thomas Jefferson owned the previous state record with a 1:33.00 from last year, while Oakton owned the 6A mark with a 1:33.75 from 2015.

Robinson’s James Murphy, Peter Brukx, Roman Lowery and Luke Jones claimed the 200-yard free relay in 1:24.79.

Robinson’s James Murphy, Roman Lowery, Peter Brukx and James Jones topped the 400-yard free relay in 3:08.39.

James Madison’s Grayson Campbell won the one-meter diving title with 607.60 points.
