At the start of this morning the YMCA National record in the men’s 200 breaststroke stood at 1:55.46, set by Max McHugh in 2016. This morning the 18 year old from Door County lowered his own National mark, touching in 1:54.23. The University of Minnesota commit returned at night to post a 1:53.59, winning the event by nearly six full seconds.

At night, McHugh was a little bit faster on all but the third 50, with the biggest drop coming in the last split.

Earlier this year McHugh set the National High School record in the 100 breaststroke.
