Pacific Tigers Bring In Verbal From Freestyler Ricky Lewis

NEW COMMIT: Trabuco Canyon, Calif. native Ricky Lewis has announced his verbal intention to stay in-state to continue is academic and swimming career at the University of the Pacific beginning in the fall of 2019.

Lewis does his club swimming with Saddleback El Toro Aquatics and concluded his summer season at the MVN Summer Junior Olympics where he had five top-15 finishes after achieving 100% lifetime bests at Santa Clarita Sectionals. He had a strong showing at Carlsbad Sectionals in March and placed fourth in both the 200 free and 500 free at the South Coast League Championships. Also swimming for Trabuco Hills High School, Lewis finaled twice at the CIF-Southern Division I Championships during his junior season.

He told Swimming World:

“I’m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim at the University of the Pacific! I know that UOP offers the perfect combination of competitive athletics and rigorous academics that I wanted in a school. Thank you to my family, coaches, and teammates who have gotten me to this point in my career. I wanted to thank Coach Richardson and Coach Carl for the opportunity to swim for such a great team. Go Tigers!”

His best times include:

100 free – 48.06
200 free – 1:42.60
500 free – 4:36.45
1000 free – 9:53.59

When he suits up for the Tigers as a member of the class of 2023, Lewis will add valuable depth to a mid-distance freestyle group that includes David Noyes and Danny Larson. He would’ve scored in the B-final of the 500 free at the 2018 MPSF Championships where Pacific placed fourth overall in the team standings.
