NEW COMMIT: West Grove, Penn. native Syd Paglia has announced her verbal intention to continue her academic and swimming career at the U.S. Naval Academy beginning in the fall of 2020.

Paglia, who owns three Winter Juniors standards, does her club swimming with Suburban Seahawks Club and most recently recorded a pair of best times at NCSAs this past summer after placing fifth in the 50m/100m free combo at Middle Atlantic LCM Seniors. Last winter, she raced three events at Juniors East and earned five top-8 finishes at Middle Atlantic SCY Seniors.

Also competing for Avon Grove High School, Paglia is a six-time Pennsylvania 3A State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American placed sixth in the 100 fly and eighth in the 100 back as a junior after finishing ninth and fourth, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.

She told Swimming World:

“I’m excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at the US Naval Academy class of 2024. I would like to express my gratitude to my family, coaches and friends for your help thru this process.  I feel blessed for the opportunity to serve our country and be a part of this amazing team. Go Navy Beat Army.”

Her best times include:

  • 50 back – 26.92
  • 100 back – 55.73
  • 50 fly – 24.51
  • 100 fly – 55.86
  • 50 free – 23.45
  • 100 free – 51.54

Paglia’s versatility will be beneficial for Navy when she arrives on campus as a member of the class of 2024 and she could find herself in a number of different events. She would’ve scored in the A-final of the 100 back as well as the B-final of the 50 free, 100 free and 100 fly at the 2019 Patriot League Championships where Navy won the team title in dominant fashion.
