Minnesota Invitational: Kelly Pash Poised for Strong Double for Texas

The 2022 Minnesota Invitational continued from Minneapolis with Day 3 of the college midseason meet.

The Day 3 prelims saw the women’s and men’s 100 butterfly, 400 IM, 200 Free, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke.

Here is a look at the top performers in each event:

Minnesota Invitational: Women’s 100 Butterfly

Texas senior Kelly Pash continued her strong performance in Minnesota, claiming the top seed in 51.01, dropping more than a second from her seed time.

Junior teammate Emma Sticklen was right on her heels with the second seed in 51.10.

Cal sophomore Mia Cragh took the third seed in 52.03.

Texas transfer Dakota Luther grabbed the fifth seed (52.76).

Minnesota Invitational: Men’s 100 Butterfly

Cal junior Dare Rose took the top seed in the men’s 100 fly in 45.73 as the golden Bears claimed two of the top three seeds.

Texas senior Cole Crane took the second spot in 46.45, followed by Cal junior Matthew Jensen (46.79).

Minnesota Invitational: Women’s 400 IM

Minnesota junior Megan Van Berkom cruised to the top seed in the 400 IM. She dropped seven seconds from her seed time and got to the wall in 4:09.97. The time was nearly five seconds ahead of the rest of the field.

Wisconsin sophomore Katie McClintock took the second spot in 4:14.38, followed by Texas sophomore Olivia McMurray (4:15.90).

Texas swept the top three seeds in the 400 IM, led by junior Carson Foster, who took the top seed in 3:38.95, an NCAA automatic qualifying time.

Junior David Johnston took the second seed in 3:39.36, followed by senior Jake Foster (3:44.70), as the trio of Longhorns finished four seconds ahead of the rest of the field.

Going for an impressive double, Texas senior Kelly Pash claimed the top seed in the 200 freestyle. She touched the wall in 1:44.77 in an event with four seniors atop the field.

Cal senior Mia Motekaitis took the second seed in 1:45.01, followed by fellow Cal senior Ayla Spitz (1:45.49) and Eloise Riley (1:46.25).

Texas took the top two seeds in the 100 breaststroke as junior Anna Elendt got to the wall first in 58.95.

Meanwhile, freshman Lydia Jacoby, an Olympian from Alaska, too the second spot in 59.44.

They were the only swimmers in the field to break a minute.

Cal senior Jade Neser took the third spot in 1:00.40.

Cal fifth-year Reece Whitley took the top seed in 51.75, just ahead of reigning NCAA champion Max McHugh of Minnesota (51.76).

Cal senior Liam Bell took the third spot at 52.15 ahead of teammate Matthew Jensen (52.27) giving Cal three of the top four seeds.

Cal junior Isabelle Stadden threw down a 50.81 in the 100 backstroke to take the top seed. Her time was an NCAA “A” cut and the fourth-fastest time this season.

Texas junior Olivia Bray took the second seed in 51.09. Wisconsin junior Olympian Phoebe Bacon was third in 51.77 as the top trio was more than a second ahead of the rest of the field.
