Marc Briggs Upgraded to Full-Time Diving Coach on Arizona State Staff

After nearly a decade as a volunteer diving coach with the Arizona State swimming and diving team, Marc Briggs has been elevated to a full-time staffer.

Head coach Bob Bowman made the announcement Monday. Briggs has worked with close to 30 Division I divers in a coaching career that started in 2005, including the last 10 years with the Sun Devils’ diving program.

Briggs graduated from Arizona State in 2001 after a stellar career on the board. He returned as a volunteer assistant in 2011.

“I’m absolutely honored to be named the new diving coach for my alma mater,” Briggs said in a team statement. “I’m just absolutely thrilled to be part of our organization and part of Bob Bowman’s group – we’re building some great things. The plan is to get some divers in here for the spring and start really building for the fall and upcoming year, and I see us building a great group and running for a title at the Pac-12 Championships. The sky’s the limit.”

Briggs was a three-time All-American from 1999-01, winning a Pac-10 championship. He was twice named the Most Valuable Diver by the Sun Devils program.

Briggs started Sun Devil Divers in 2004, mentoring divers as young as five years old as the head coach of the organization. He’s also spent parts of nine seasons with the ASU program (minus last year’s red-shirted campaign due to COVID-19), organizing home meets and instructing divers.

“We are proud to have Sun Devil alum Marc Briggs lead our diving program,” Bowman said. “As an NCAA All-American and conference champion, Marc has firsthand knowledge of what it takes to compete successfully at the top levels of collegiate diving. As a coach, he has developed athletes from the grassroots to the Olympic level and has very strong ties to club diving in Arizona.  This experience will be invaluable as he takes over our program and continues the legacy of excellence that is the hallmark of ASU diving.”
