Lehigh Mountain Hawks Receive Verbal Nods From Maggie Mikalic, Monica Wintermute

NEW COMMITS: Lehigh University has picked up their first two verbal commitments for their Class of 2025 from Ambler, Pa. native Maggie Mikalic and Monica Wintermute of Stockton, N.J.

Both talented swimmers will arrive in Bethlehem, Pa. at the start of the 2021-22 season.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am extremely happy to announce my verbal commitment to Lehigh University to pursue my academic and athletic goals. I chose Lehigh because of its prestigious engineering program, beautiful campus, and strong swimming and diving team. I am forever grateful for my family, friends, teachers, coaches and teammates who have given me support and guidance throughout the years. A special thank you to Coach Rob and Coach Christina! I can’t wait to be a Mountain Hawk!”

Mikalic swims year-round with Upper Dublin Aquatic Club and earned five best times at the NCAP Invitational in December where her highest finish was a 17th-place showing in the mile. Last summer, she had a great showing at Middle Atlantic LCM Seniors en route to achieving 10 lifetime bests.

Her best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:52.24
  • 500 free – 5:01.51
  • 1000 free – 10:29.72
  • 1650 free – 17:41.80

Also competing for Mount Saint Joseph Academy, Mikalic is a three-time Pennsylvania 3A State Championship finalist. She finished 10th in the 500 free and 14th in the 200 free as a junior while taking 11th in the former event during her sophomore season.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I’m so incredibly excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic careers at Lehigh University!! I want to thank my family, coaches, and teammates for supporting me!! Go Mountain Hawks!!”

Wintermute does her club swimming with Somerset Valley YMCA and finished seventh in the 200 IM at the New Jersey 13&O State Championships in March 2019. She raced four events at YMCA Nationals in April 2019 and placed 16th in the 50m fly at YMCA LCM Nationals last summer.

Her best times include:

  • 100 fly – 58.05
  • 200 fly – 2:12.78
  • 200 IM – 2:07.19
  • 400 IM – 4:37.04

Currently a senior at Hunterdon Central Regional High School, Wintermute competed at the New Jersey Meet of Champions during her sophomore campaign.
