Lander Valley’s Tucker Russell Wins Four Events at Wyoming Boys 4A High School State Championships

GILLETTE–Tucker Russell of Lander Valley won all four of his events today at Wyoming’s Boys 4A high school state championships. The senior’s success began right away as he and teammates Ryan Crawford, Chase Bolding, and Griffin Leemon took gold in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:40.32 a full four seconds ahead of Kemmerer (1:44.78). Powell rounded out the top three with a 1:46.01.

Powell’s Ben Wetzell took first in the 200 free with a quick time of 1:50.03. Lander Valley’s Chance Nelson and Rawlins Aiden Cain battled for second but Nelson was able to out-touch Cain with a 1:51.98. Cain finished in 1:52.06.

Russell grabbed his first individual of the day in the 200 IM where he finished with a time of 1:59.55. Teammate Crawford finished second with a 2:03.52.

Charles Lallatin of Lyman won the 50 free in 22.05. He was followed to the wall by Powell’s Billy Baker (22.52) and Kemmerer’s Brandon Ellis (22.87).

Kemmerer freshman Carl Krell swept the competition in the 100 fly. Krell finished with a swift 52.89.

Wetzell added a second win to his day in the 500 free where he finished four seconds ahead of the competition. Wetzell took gold with a time of 5:06.34 while Cain was second in 5:10.33.

Russell’s third win of the day occurred when he beat out Krell for the gold in the 100 back. Russell out-swam Krell finishing with a 53.99 compared to Krell’s 57.52.

A swift Lander Valley 400 free relay provided Russell his fourth and final win of the day. Russell led teammates Tyler Marchetti, Nick Krassin, and Leemon to a final time of 3:21.76.
