NEW COMMIT: Mooresetown, New Jersey native Josh Fong has announced his commitment to the University of Virginia and will arrive in Charlottesville this fall. His older brother, Zach Fong, is currently a senior All-American for the Hoos.

Fong swims year-round with the Jersey Wahoos and is a five-time Winter Juniors qualifier. He most recently competed at Juniors East last month where he recorded a pair of lifetime bests and finished 19th in the 200 fly. He earned 100% lifetime bests at NCSAs last summer where his highest finish was a 10th-place showing in the 50m fly. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American had five top-10 finishes at Mid-Atlantic Seniors and had five second-swims at NCSAs last March. Also swimming for Moorestown High School, Fong took third in the 100 fly during both his sophomore and junior seasons at the New Jersey State Championships.

He told Swimming World:

“I’m super excited to announce my commitment to the University of Virginia! UVA is one of the top universities in the country that provides an invaluable educational experience. The team is extremely driven and the coaches bring an energy that is unmatched across the country. I can’t wait to join the Virginia family and be a part of something really special. Go Hoos!!”

His best times include:

  • 100 fly – 49.66
  • 200 fly – 1:49.53
  • 200 IM – 1:51.60
  • 400 IM – 4:00.55
  • 50 free – 21.84
  • 100 free – 47.39
  • 100 back – 51.84
  • 100 breast – 57.21

Fong’s versatility will be extremely useful to the Hoos when he suits up as a member of the class of 2023. Although he’s currently just outside of scoring range at the ACC Championships, he has made significant improvements over the past few seasons.
