Jefferson Forest Men, Jamestown Women Dominate Virginia 4A States

Virginia High School 4A States was marked by a deep field across both the men’s and women’s races.

Hanover High School boys won the 200 medley relay in 1:38.27 with the team of Patrick Townsend, Jonathan Moss, Ross Newton, and Marshall Brooks. In second was Loudon County High School’s squad of Jake Yeager, Kyle Backus, Collin Hughes, and Shane Hunter in 1:38.53. Third place went to Kettle Run High School, with Jake Heenan, Tanner Smith, Garrett Finan, and Nicholas Fallows touching in 1:38.75.

In the women’s race, Jamestown High School took first with 1:46.05 posted by Joelle Vereb, Ashley Adams, Carter Catherine Roehrle, and Abby Larson. In second was Lafayette High School with 1:47.69 by the squad of Grace Olsen, Colby Hurt, Sofia Long, and Olivia Nice. Rounding out the top three was King George High School’s team of Emily Sizemore, Jessica Miller, Caroline Bentz, and Emma Morrow posting a 1:51.96.

Matthew Popovich of Dominion High School dominated the 200 free in 1:39.79. In second was Jake Lawson of Salem High School in 1:43.67 and in third was his teammate Nick Lawson in 1:44.37.

Nicole Fye of Rock Ridge High School won the women’s race in 1:50.25. She was followed by Keeley Hemminger of Woodgrove Swim Team in 1:54.16 and Lindsey Fanz of Powhatan High School in 1:54.48.

Sean Conway of Loudoun Valley won the men’s 200 IM in 1:48.70. Second place went to Michael Burris of Heritage High School in 1:51.94, while third went to Kyle Barker of John Champe High School.

Hurt won the women’s 200 IM in 2:02.60. Jacqueline Tinneney of Grafton Swimming placed second with a 2:06.40 and Rachel Schlemmer of Dominion High School placed third with a 2:07.04.

Jacob Miller of King George High School won the 50 free for the men in 21.20. Hughes took second in 21.60 and Tyler Dominick of Deep Creek High School finished third with a 21.67.

Larson won the women’s race in a 23.47. In second was Bentz, touching in 24.39. Rita Frie of Woodgrove Swim Team finished third in 24.55.

Only two divers competed, with Jack Fleming of Harrisonburg High School scoring 311.30 points on the men’s side and Shyanne Morris of Louisa County High School scoring 230.15 points on the women’s side.

Khalil Fonder of William Byrd High School won the men’s 100 fly in 48.41. Barker took second in 51.43 and Josh Hankey of Jefferson Forest High School took third in 51.48.

Vereb won the women’s race in 55.50, while Gabby Zhang of Rock Ridge finished second in 56.14. In third was Long in 56.61.

Popovich narrowly won the men’s 100 free in 46.31, edging out Miller who finished in 46.47. In third place was Ryland Leupold of Courtland High School in 47.37.

Larson won the women’s 100 free in 50.69. Bentz finished second in 51.68 and Frie was third with a 52.36.

Conway took first in the men’s 500, finishing in 4:32.42. Jake and Nick Lawson finished second and third, respectively, in 4:34.73 and 4:36.10.

Fye won the women’s 500 in 4:54.52, followed by Hurt in 4:57.24. Tinneney finished third in 5:02.38.

Jamestown High School won the 200 free relay for the men, finishing in 1:39.34 with the team of Austin Smith, Matt Williams, Corey Schideler, and Taylor Watson. Courtland High School finished second, with the team of Nick Ashton, Nick Slater, Kyle Pins, Leupold touching in 1:29.75. In third was Kettle Run High School’s team of Andy Whitted, Parker Webb, Smith, and Fallows in 1:29.92.

Jamestown won the women’s race in 1:36.82 with the team of Vereb, Kaitlyn Pegram, Roehrle, and Larson. In second was Rock Ridge’s team of Zhang, Emerson Davis, Allie MacMillan, and Fye in 1:38.36. Third place went to Woodgrove Swim Team’s squad of Hannah Carter, Sarah Frie, Hemminger, and Rita Frie in 1:41.08.

Fonder won the 100 backstroke in 49.52. He was followed by Townsend in 50.37 and Hankey in 53.00.

Vereb dominated the 100 backstroke in 56.52. Zhang took second in 58.34 and Olsen finished third in 58.60.

Burris showed a dominate performance in the 100 breaststroke with a 55.93 victory. Nate Wilson of King George High School finished second in 57.91 and Carson Stevens of Park View Patriots Swim Team took third in 59.66.

Tara Enneking of Jefferson Forest High School won the women’s race in 1:05.06. Her teammate Lexi Plogger finished second in 1:06.32. Miller took third in 1:07.47.

Jefferson Forest High School won the men’s 400 freestyle relay with the team of Ben Davidson, Brian Grimmett, Brendan Murray, and Hankey touching in 3:15.42. In second was Loudoun County High School’s team of Hughes, Jack Ramberg, Hunter, and Yeager in 3:16.12. Third place went to Jamestown High School’s squad of Smith, Williams, Schideler, and Watson in 3:17.01.

Rock Ridge High School won the women’s 400 free relay in 3:31.47 with the squad of Zhang, Davis, MacMillan, and Fye. Lafeyette High School finished second with the team of Olsen, Emma Frieling, Hurt, and Long touching in 3:34.32. Woodgrove Swim Team rounded out the top three in 3:36.43 by the team of S. Frie, Carter, Hemminger, and R. Frie.

Jefferson Forest High School won the men’s meet with 198.5 points. In second was Hanover High School with 155 and in third was Kettle Run High School with 144.

On the women’s side, the meet was won by Jamestown High School with 287 points. Rock Ridge High School finished second with 258 points and Lafayette High School finished third with 199 points.
