Indiana freshman Tarrin Gilliland won the platform diving title on Saturday night at the 2021 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships in Greensboro with 338.40 as she won ahead of Arizona junior Delaney Schnell (331.80) and Purdue’s Maycey Vieta (316.80).

Vieta was joined in the final by two other teammates as Maggie Merriman (312.30) and Emily Bretscher (278.00) finished in fourth and seventh respectively. The Big Ten was well represented in the final with five total finalists – Nebraska’s Abigail Knapton was eighth with 276.70 points.

Texas’ Paola Pineda finished in fifth place at 304.30 as the Longhorns now have a 2.5 point lead over NC State for second place heading into the final event, the 400 free relay. The Longhorns also placed 10th and 12th in the B-Final.

North Carolina’s Aranza Vazquez (280.50) placed sixth as she and Pineda were both in all three diving A-finals.

Indiana now has three NCAA titles in platform diving, as Gilliland joins the likes of Cassandra Cardinell (2005) and Jessica Parratto (2015) as winners of the event for the Hoosiers.
