NEW COMMIT: Indiana University has kept local superstar Kristina Paegle in state for her college career, as the Bloomington native pledged her verbal for the Class of 2026.

She will join the Hoosiers along with Avery Spade, Gracie Olsen and Mya DeWitt at the start of the 2022-23 season.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am beyond humbled and excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my athletic and academic career at Indiana University! Having the opportunity to be a part of one of the top programs in the country with dedicated coaches and long standing swimming traditions is truly amazing. I would like to thank my coaches, teammates, family, and friends for their constant support along the way. Go Hoosiers!!”

A talented sprint freestyler, Paegle trains year-round with Indiana Swim Club and owns several Junior National cuts. She placed 16th in the 50 free at Indianapolis Sectionals in March 2019 while earning a trio of best times at Indiana LCM Seniors last summer. She also raced the 50m free at Junior Nationals in summer 2019.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 23.20
  • 100 free – 49.57
  • 200 free – 1:48.23
  • 500 free – 5:01.41

Currently a junior at Bloomington South High School, Paegle is already a four-time individual Indiana State Championship finalist. She won the 100 free and was the runner-up in the 200 free as a sophomore while taking 11th in the 100 free and 12th in the 50 free during her freshman season.

She has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for her efforts in the pool and in the classroom.

Paegle will add much-needed sprint depth to the Hoosiers’ lineup and she’ll be a big asset both individually and on relays. Her best time in the 100 free is already fast enough to score in the B-final at the 2020 Big Ten Championships where Indiana finished third overall in the team standings.
