Harvard Men’s Swimming & Diving came home with the 2018 Men’s Ivy League Swimming & Diving Championship Title with 1630.5 points. Princeton earned runner-up honors with 1285.5 while Yale was third with 1138. Columbia (1107.5), Penn (1032.5), Cornell (800) and Dartmouth (561) placed fourth through seventh.

This marks Harvard’s second-straight win and 25th all-time team victory.

1650 Freestyle

Harvard junior Brennan Novak went three-for-three at these Championships in the distance events. He added the 1650 to his name coming in just off the pool record in 14:46.17. The swim marks his fourth individual Ivy League individual title in his career. The swim was his first time under the 14:50 barrier as he took down the favorite in this race, teammate Logan Houck (14:51.64).

Houck had the lead through the 500 mark, but Novak was able to hold under 54 pace in the back half to secure the win. Yales Kei Hyogo was in second through 1400 yards, but could not hold off Houck in the final 200. Harvard also placed two more swimmers in the top eight with Zach Snyder (fifth – 14:59.59) and Kent Haeffner (eighth – 15:15.35).

Penn also placed multiple swimmers in the top eight as Will Thomas was fourth in 14:59.19 and Taylor Uselis was sixth in 15:06.06. Princeton freshman Levy Nathan was seventh in 15:11.48 while teammates Arthur Marley (15:16.74) and Sam Tarter (15:177.22) earned valuable points in ninth and tenth.

200 Backstroke

Crimson teammate Dean Farris kept Harvard on top by setting new meet, pool and program records in the 200 Backstroke. The time is currently the second-fastest swim this year in the NCAA only behind Texas’ Austin Katz. It was only Farris’ second time under 1:40 in this event after posting a 1:39.99 in the prelims of the 2017 NCAA Championships.

Teammates Daniel Tran (1:43.11) and Koya Osada (1:43.93) also placed in the top eight taking the third and fifth spots in the A final. Penn junior Mark Blinstrub raced to a best time of 1:42.32 after consistently pacing ahead of the competition throughout the race.

Columbia senior Michal Zyla ended his successful weekend with a school record and fourth place finish in this event. He swam a 1:43.17 in the prelims and a 1:43.35 in finals with a strong back half. Teammate Cole Stevens placed sixth with a time of 1:45.23.

Penn’s Chris Nicholson (1:46.31) and Cornell’s Van Cates (1:47.38) rounded out the heat.
