Gamecocks Add Another, Get Verbal from Bethany Tart of East Carolina Aquatics

NEW COMMIT: The University of South Carolina has added another verbal commitment to their growing class of 2024: Winterville, N.C. native Bethany Tart will join the Gamecocks next fall.

Primarily a sprinter, Tart does her club swimming with East Carolina Aquatics and was the 100 free runner-up at North Carolina SCY Seniors in February. Last summer, she placed sixth in the 200m free with five other finals appearances at North Carolina LCM Seniors before going on to win the 50m/100m free combo at Southern Zones.

Also competing for South Central High School, Tart is a three-time North Carolina 4A State Championship finalist. She placed fifth in the 100 free and seventh in the 200 free during her junior season after racing to 14th in the former event as a sophomore.

She told Swimming World:

“I’m SO excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim&study at the University of South Carolina!! Huge thanks to my family, friends,  coaches, and teammates that helped make this dream come true! Can’t wait to join the Gamecock family!! #SpursUp”

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 23.69
  • 100 free – 51.10
  • 200 free – 1:51.35
  • 500 free – 5:05.58
  • 100 back – 58.30
  • 100 fly – 57.42

The Gamecocks have been on top of their recruiting game for next fall, snagging five in-state recruits in Hayley MasonAubrey ChandlerEmma SullivanGabi Reed and Riley Parker who will join Tart in 2020, in addition to Bella PantanoOlivia McPhersonMegan ArmstrongMeredith Berglund and Kaitlyn Porter.
