NEW COMMIT: The University of Notre Dame has received their third early verbal commitment for the 2022-23 season from U.S. Open qualifier Mary Codevilla of Longmont, Colo.

She will join Renee Gillilan and Grace Brenneman as a member of the Fighting Irish’s Class of 2026.

She told Swimming World:

“I’m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME! Huge thanks to my family, friends, and coaches for all their support! I can’t wait to be a part of the Irish family!! GO IRISH!!☘️ #irishbouND”

A versatile swimmer, Codevilla does her club swimming with Elevation Athletics and finished eighth in the 400 IM, 12th in the 500 free, and 16th in the 200 IM at Juniors West last December. In Summer 2019, she registered a pair of top-5 finishes at Mount Hood Sectionals before going on to race four events at Junior Nationals.

Her best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:48.92
  • 500 free – 4:48.87
  • 50 breast – 29.38
  • 100 breast – 1:03.16
  • 200 breast – 2:12.08
  • 200 IM – 2:01.93
  • 400 IM – 4:17.54

Currently a junior at Niwot High School, Codevilla is already a four-time individual Colorado 4A State Championship finalist. She won gold in both the 200 free and 500 free as a sophomore while taking first in the 200 IM and second in the 500 free during her freshman season.

She has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors and has twice been named the BoCoPreps Swimmer of the Year.

Codevilla will make an immediate impact in a number of different events when she arrives on campus in the fall of 2022. She would’ve scored in the B-final of the 200 breast as well as the C-final of the 400 IM and 500 free at the 2020 ACC Championships where Notre Dame finished fifth under head coach Michael Litzinger.
