Florida Trio Leads SEC Weekly Honors

Men’s Swimmer of the Week: Maxime Rooney, Florida

Florida’s Maxime Rooney, a junior from Livermore, Calif., won four individual events and was a part of two winning relays as No. 5 Florida posted wins in the tri-meet against No. 14 Ohio State and No. 25 Kentucky. Rooney posted B-cut times in the 100 fly (47.26) and 200 free (1:35.64), while also claiming first place in the 50 free and 100 free. He also swam the third leg of the 200 medley relay and the first leg of the 400 free relay.

Men’s Diver of the Week: Juan Celaya-Hernandez, LSU

LSU’s Juan Celaya-Hernandez, a junior from San Nicolas de los Garza, Mexico, swept the springboard events at the Georgia Diving Invitational. He took the top spot in the 1-meter with a final score of 382.90 and the 3-meter with a final score of 428.50.

Men’s Freshman of the Week: Robert Finke, Florida

Florida’s Robert Finke, a freshman from Clearwater, Fla., won the 1650 free with a B-cut time of 15:03.14 as No. 5 Florida posted wins in the tri-meet against No. 14 Ohio State and No. 25 Kentucky. He finished second in the 1000 free with a time of 9:04.75, good for 17th place in the nation.

Women’s Swimmer of the Week: Sherridon Dressel, Florida

Florida’s Sherridon Dressel, a junior from Green Cove Springs, Fla., placed first in four individual events and was a part of three winning relays as No. 10 Florida won the tri-meet against No. 13 Kentucky and No. 22 Ohio State. Dressel posted B-cut times in the 100 back (52.79) and 100 free (49.04). She also claimed the top spot in the 100 free and tied for first in the 100 free. She also swam the first leg of the winning 200 free and 400 free relays as well as the third leg of the first-place 200 medley relay.

Women’s Diver of the Week: Brooke Schultz, Arkansas

Arkansas’ Brooke Schultz, a sophomore from Fayetteville, Ark., won both springboard events at the Georgia Diving Invitational. She earned the gold medal in the 1-meter with a final score of 365.05 and in the 3-meter with a final score of 337.60. At the World University Games, Schultz overcame a 7.40-point deficit in the 1-meter preliminaries to defeat the reigning National Champion by 16.80 points.

Women’s Freshman of the Week: Vanessa Pearl, Florida

Florida’s Vanessa Pearl, a freshman from McKinney, Texas, won an individual event and was a part of two winning relays as No. 10 Florida won the tri-meet against No. 13 Kentucky and No. 22 Ohio State. Pearl touched the wall first in the 200 breaststroke with a B-cut time of 2:11.58. She also recorded B-cut times in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.50) and the 400 IM (4:11.80). Pearl swam the second legs of the first-place 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay.
