Florida Gators Get Another Verbal for 2022 from Iowa State Record Holder Scarlet Martin

NEW COMMIT: The University of Florida has been on a roll recently with their Class of 2026 recruiting, now receiving four verbal commitments in the past few days. Their latest comes from Scarlet Martin of Iowa City, Iowa.

She will join Florida natives Mallory Schleicher, Bella Lojewski and Anna Moore in Gainesville at the start of the 2022-23 season.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“It’s with great excitement that I announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Florida!! I want to thank my friends, family, and all my coaches for helping me get here!! Go gators!!?”

One of the top butterfliers in her class, Martin swims year-round with Eastern Iowa Swimming Federation and owns several Junior National standards. She won the 100 back at Iowa Seniors in February before going on to take 14th in the 200m fly at TYR Pro Swim Series in Des Moines.

Last summer, she earned gold in the 100m fly at Iowa LCM Seniors after grabbing bronze in that event at Minneapolis Sectionals. Martin also placed third in the 100m fly and fourth in the 200m fly at Des Moines Futures.

Her best times include:

100 fly – 53.41
200 fly – 1:57.91
200 IM – 2:02.56
100 back – 54.42
50 free – 23.92
100 free – 50.59

Currently a junior at Iowa City West High School, Martin is already a four-time Iowa State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American won the 100 fly and 200 IM as a sophomore while taking second and third, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.

In 2020, she broke the Iowa state record in the 100 fly.

Even with a while before entering college, she will make an immediate impact when she suits up for the Gators in two years. Her best times are already fast enough to score in the B-final of both the 100 and 200 fly at the 2020 SEC Championships.

Martin will be the second NCAA DI swimmer in her family as her older sister, Ruby Martin, is currently a junior at Arizona State.
