Five Mako Aquatics Seniors Announce College Decisions

NEW COMMITS: Mako Aquatics, based out of the St. Croix Valley in Minnesota, is excited to announce five graduating seniors who have committed to continuing their academic and athletic pursuits at the collegiate level.

Under the guidance and leadership of head coach and CEO Bob Young, Mako Aquatics is the No. 1 age group swim team in the St. Croix Valley. Mako Aquatics is a year-round competitive USA Swim Team offering high-quality professional coaching for all ages and abilities. The goal of the team is to provide every member an opportunity to improve swimming skills and achieve success at his or her level and pace, from the novice to national level student-athlete and Masters.

Steven Asmus | Augustana University

He told Swimming World:

“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Augustana University. A huge thanks to my friends, family, and coaches who have supported me along the way. Go Vikings!!!”

Asmus has picked up six new lifetime bests since COVID and secured a 14th-place showing in the 500 free and a 16th-place finish in the mile at March’s Minnesota Seniors. In Summer 2019, he flew to seventh place in the 200m fly at Minnesota LCM Seniors and earned a best time at Minneapolis Sectionals.

His best times include:

200 free – 1:46.65
500 free – 4:48.56
1650 free – 16:56.56
100 fly – 52.68
200 IM – 1:58.36

Asmus is a four-time individual Wisconsin DII State Championship finalist for Hudson High School. He finished 15th in the 200 free and 17th in the 500 free as a junior while taking 23rd and 21st, respectively, in those events in his sophomore season.

Dot Chislett | Valparaiso University

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“So excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim for Valparaiso University!!! Can’t wait to join an amazing family #gocrusaders #d1dreams”

Chislett earned herself five lifetime bests at the ISCA Senior Classic last month and raced four events at Minnesota Seniors last year. She also had a strong showing at Minnesota LCM Seniors two summers ago after finaling in a pair of events at the Aquajets Summer Invite.

Her best times include:

50 free – 25.11
100 free – 55.89
50 breast – 32.70
100 breast – 1:09.20
200 breast – 2:31.85

Currently a senior at Stillwater Area High School, Chislett secured silver in both the 50 free and 100 breast at the Minnesota 2AA Sectional Championships in October. She also competed on her team’s 4×50 free relay at the state meet during her junior campaign.

Sky DuPont | Cornell University

She told Swimming World:

“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Cornell University. Thank you to my friends, family, and coaches who have supported me along the way. Go Big Red!!️”

DuPont, who posted a pair of top-15 finishes at Minnesota Seniors in March, will join MAKO alum Melissa Parker at Cornell. DuPont also finished eighth in the 400m free at the 2019 Minneapolis LCM Sectionals and 18th in that event at the NCSA Championships that same summer.

Her best times include:

200 free – 1:52.92
500 free – 5:00.56
1650 free – 17:27.22
200 IM – 2:07.68

She most recently won the 200/500 free combo at the Minnesota 2AA Sectional Championships back in the fall. DuPont also raced to seventh in the 500 free and 10th in the 200 free in 2019 while taking ninth and seventh, respectively, in those events in 2018 at the MSHSL 2A State Championships.

Ethan Hanson | McKendree University

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am honored to announce my commitment to pursue my academic and athletic career at McKendree University! Thank you to my coaches, friends, & family who’ve supported me along the way, as well as Lori and the American College Connection team. I can’t wait to swim under such incredible coaches and alongside these amazing athletes!”

Hanson has picked up a trio of best times during intrasquad meets since COVID and finished 12th in both the 100 and 200 breast at Minnesota Seniors last March. In Summer 2019, he earned three best times at Minneapolis Sectionals before going on to take 13th in the 200m breast at Minnesota LCM Seniors.

His best times include:

50 breast – 27.60
100 breast – 59.03
200 breast – 2:09.12
200 IM – 2:00.38

Also competing for Hudson High School, Hanson finished 12th in the 100 breast as a junior and 20th in that event as a sophomore at the Wisconsin DI State Championships. He is also a four-time WIAA DI Hudson Sectional Championship finalist.

Sydney Rogness | University of Utah

She told Swimming World:

“I am very excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my education and swimming at University of Utah! I want to thank my family, friends and coaches for all the support! Go Utes.”

Rogness was the runner-up in the 200 IM at Minnesota Seniors back in March where she also secured bronze in the 400 IM. She raced both IMs at Juniors West in December 2019 and won those two events at Minnesota LCM Seniors two summers ago.

Her best times include:

200 IM – 2:02.71
400 IM – 4:19.95
100 free – 51.78
200 free – 1:52.03

While representing Stillwater Area High School, Rogness is a six-time Minnesota Class AA State Championship finalist. She placed fourth in the 200 IM and 10th in the 100 free during her junior year while taking third and sixth, respectively, in those events as a sophomore.
