Filippo Dal Maso Gives Verbal to Virginia Tech Hokies

NEW COMMIT: Italy’s Filippo Dal Maso has given his verbal commitment to Virginia Tech. He will join the Hokies in January 2019 as a member of the class of 2022.

Dal Maso swims for Nuoto Livorno and has represented Italy internationally. At the 2017 European Junior Championships, he finished 12th in the 200m free, 13th in the 200m IM and 16th in the 400m free. At the Italian Junior National Championships this summer, he recorded three lifetime bests in the 200m IM, 400m free and 800m free.

He told Swimming World:

“Coach Sergio gave me an amazing opportunity to do both of my great passions, swim and architecture , i’m greatful for that and i will not waste  this chance.” [sic]

  • 100 free – 51.38 (44.85)
  • 200 free – 1:51.08 (1:37.19)
  • 400 free – 3:53.36 (4:20.19)
  • 800 free – 8:06.20 (9:02.11)
  • 200 IM – 2:05.11 (1:48.47)
  • 400 IM – 4:27.62 (3:51.49)
  • 100 back – 58.19 (49.75)
  • 200 back – 2:05.35 (1:48.92)

In SCM, his best times include (and converted to SCY):

  • 100 free – 50.06 (45.05)
  • 200 free – 1:48.12 (1:37.57)
  • 400 free – 3:48.20 (4:19.91)
  • 200 IM – 2:00.67 (1:48.61)
  • 400 IM – 4:13.18 (3:47.88)
  • 100 back – 55.44 (49.90)
  • 200 back – 1:58.12 (1:46.41)

When Dal Maso arrives on campus in January for the remainder of the 2018-19 season, he’ll join a freshman class that includes Henry Claesson, Brennen Doss, Dylan Eichberg, Ben Hicks, Blake Manoff Keith Myburgh, Alex Wright, and Noah Zawadzki.
