Energy Standard sprinter Femke Heemskerk missed the opening match of the 202o International Swimming League (ISL) season because of a positive COVID-19 test.

On Monday, she tested negative and will begin the process of traveling to Budapest to rejoin her team in the ISL bubble.

results come back negative!! ???? I can’t wait to join my warriors @energystandard ❤️?⚡ See you soooon ✈ Budapest ? Covid 1⃣ VS Fem 2️⃣ ??” Heemskerk posted on Instagram.

Heemskerk, a sprint freestyler from the Netherlands, was a key point-scorer for Energy Standard last season. She scored the fifth-most points on the team. The next match for Energy Standard begins Nov. 1, giving Heemskerk time to travel and adjust.

Heemskerk was stunned to have tested positive in the first place.

Unfortunately I recently tested positive for COVID-19. I’m NOT sick and have NO symptoms at all. I have been so careful, so it was quite a shock to be honest. I’m in quarantine and following the rules of the Dutch CDC. Hope I can still join the @iswimleague and my team @energystandard when this is all possible again. ❤️? she posted.

Heemskerk recently talked about how she has been able to stay consistent for so long, as she was a gold medalist in the 4×100 freestyle relay at the 2008 Olympic Games for the Netherlands alongside Inge DekkerRanomi Kromowidjojo and Marleen Veldhuis as it was the Netherlands first relay Olympic gold medal since 1936.

Femke Heemskerk  was sixth in the 100 freestyle final at last year’s World Championships and she expressed her chances at a gold medal in next year’s Olympic Games (30:00) saying that if she gets a lane in the final she will have a chance.
