Egor Kornev Goes Fifth All-Time in 50 Free With 21.06 Blast in Kazan
Egor Kornev went fifth all-time in the 50 free with a sizzling 21.06 at the Russian Championships in Kazan.
Kornev delivered his show of speed a day after posting 21.12 in the semis to go sixth in the all-time rankings in a national record, slicing a 0.31 chunk off his PB of 21.43 from last year’s national championships.
The 22-year-old – who split 46.40 on anchor as a Neutral Individual Athletes quartet won the medley relay at the 2025 worlds in Singapore – returned on Tuesday evening for the final to clip a further 0.06 and leapfrog Ben Proud in the all-time standings.
Kornev is the second fastest European in history, 0.12 off Fred Bousquet’s continental record of 20.94 that’s stood since the supersuit era of 2009.
Daniil Kosenkov was second in 21.78 with Vasily Kukushkin third in 21.91.
