Drury Women’s Swimming and Diving Takes Down Crosstown Rival Missouri State

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.- The Drury women’s swimming & diving team won their dual at Missouri State 128-113 while the Drury men’s squad lost to the Bears 146-91 at the Hammons Student Center pool in Springfield on Friday.

Women’s Highlights

The Panthers won 10 of the 11 swimming events against their Division I intracity rival and junior Bailee Nunn picked up three wins taking first in the 50 Free (23.80), 200 Fly (2:04.39) and 200 Breast (2:20.24). Erica Dahlgren won the 1000 Free (10:10.61) and the 500 Free (4:56.75). Drury also picked up two first-place finishes from Yasmin Preusse who won the 200 Free (1:53.33) and the 100 Free (51.50).

The Panthers clinched the win finishing first, third and fourth with 400 Free Relay teams. Drury’s Caytee Wright, Chrysoula Karamanou, Laura Pareja, and Abby Lunzmann combined to win the relay with a time of 3:30.17.

Men’s Highlights

Drury’s Joan Casanovas picked up two wins as he took first by nearly two seconds in the 200 Free with a time of 1:41.70. He also won the 500 Free (4:35.06) edging Missouri State’s Antonio Thomas by .15 seconds.

Young Tae Seo won the closest race of the night as the senior from Los Angeles took the 200 Breast with a time of 2:03.09 and won by 0.02 seconds over Bears swimmer Blair Bish.

The Panthers closed the night with a first-place and third-place finish in the 400 Free Relay. Caleb Carlson, Khameron Glass, Joan Casanovas, and Aitor Martinez posted a time of 3:06.18 to win the event.

Friday’s dual was the first of two head-to-head battles between the Springfield collegiate programs. Drury and Missouri State will meet again in the “Duel in the Pool” on Jan. 17 at the Breech Pool on Drury’s campus.

The Drury swim teams compete again on Saturday when they travel to Lindenwood for a triangular against the Lions and Delta State in St. Peters, Missouri.
