Buckeyes Score 2020 In-State Verbal from Ohio State Runner-Up Maya Geringer

NEW COMMIT: The Ohio State University has earned a new in-state verbal commitment for the fall of 2020 from Dublin, Ohio native Maya Geringer.

Geringer, who does her club swimming with United Swim Association, owns the Winter Juniors standard in the 500 free and recently won the mile while achieving four best times at the MAKO Senior Circuit in March. She earned gold in the 500 free at the Ned Reeb Invite in December and notched a trio of top-20 finishes at Richmond Futures last summer.

Also competing for Jerome High School, Geringer is a four-time Ohio State Championship finalist. She was the 500 free runner-up and took 12th in the 200 free as a junior after placing 13th and ninth, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.

She told Swimming World:

“I am beyond excited to announce my commitment to The Ohio State University to continue my academic and swimming career! What set the Buckeyes apart are the great academics and alumni network that will be available to me post-graduation. As a Columbus resident, I was aware of the beautiful campus and awesome swimming facilities, but am excited to be a part of a team with a ton of resources available to me. Most importantly, I can’t wait to join the Buckeye Women’s team as everyone has been so kind and encouraging. Go Bucks!”

Her best times include:

200 free – 1:51.65
500 free – 4:51.74
1000 free – 10:15.31
1650 free – 17:00.87
100 fly – 57.48

Geringer will add valuable distance freestyle depth to Ohio State’s lineup when she arrives on campus as a member of the class of 2024. Although she’s just outside of scoring range at the Big Ten Championships, she has continuously made improvements each season with over a year to go before suiting up for the Buckeyes.
