Brandon Day & Jonathan Edwards Commit to Ohio State’s Class of 2024

NEW COMMITS: The Ohio State University has two new additions for the fall of 2020 from Brandon Day of Loveland, Ohio, and Annapolis, Md. native Jonathan Edwards, both of whom will suit up for the Buckeyes as members of the class of 2024.

Day, who does his club swimming with Mercy Healthplex Sea Wolves, is primarily a backstroker who owns the Junior National standard in 100 back. He earned a pair of gold medals at the MAKO Invite last month and notched 100% lifetime bests at NCSAs last summer. A current junior at Loveland High School, Day finished seventh in both the 100 back and 200 free at the Ohio State Championships as a junior while taking 11th in the 500 free during his sophomore season.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I’m very proud to announce my commitment to THE Ohio State University to further my academic and athletic career. I have been truly blessed to fulfill my lifelong goal of becoming a Buckeye! After meeting with the coaching staff and team, touring the facilities, and experiencing the culture at Ohio State, I knew this place was special. The environment, family-knit team, tradition, resources available, and strive for greatness here are unparalleled. I believe the coaches and philosophy of the program here will develop me into the swimmer and person I am supposed to become. A big shout out to my family, coaches, and friends who helped me turn my dream into a reality. I can’t wait to get started, Go Bucks!”

His best times include:

  • 100 back – 48.97
  • 200 back – 1:50.06
  • 100 fly – 50.43
  • 50 free – 21.36
  • 100 free – 46.31

JONATHAN EDWARDS

A talented distance freestyler and IMer, Edwards swims year-round with Naval Academy Aquatic Club and owns the U.S. Open standard in the mile with a pair of additional Juniors cuts. He recently won the 1000/1650 free combo at the NBAC Christmas Invite after earning seven top-20 finishes at TYR Summer Seniors this past summer. Also competing for St. Mary’s High School, Edwards placed fourth in the 500 free and 11th in the 200 free as a junior at the National Catholic Championships.

He told Swimming World:

“I am extremely excited to announce my verbs commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at THE Ohio State University. This is truly a dream come true and I wouldn’t be at this point without my friends, family, and coaches. GO BUCKS!”

  • 1000 free – 9:23.18
  • 1650 free – 15:34.76
  • 200 IM – 1:54.92
  • 400 IM – 4:02.59
