Kerry Croswhite, a long-time swim coach in Arizona who died in July due to complications from COVID-19, is set to have the facility he once worked at named in his honor.

The Chandler Unified School District is expected to approve the naming of its aquatic center in Croswhite’s honor, according to The Arizona Republic. Croswhite led the Chandler High team for the last 15 years. He was diagnosed with COVID-19 in late June and battled the disease for three weeks before passing away.

“Our family is deeply touched that the Chandler pool will be named after Kerry,” Laurie Croswhite told The Republic. “He had always dedicated his life to teaching and coaching. This is a perfect way to honor Kerry’s memory and carry on his legacy he established.”

The idea for the Kerry Croswhite Aquatic Center was floated by Chandler athletic director Jim Culver, in recognition of what Croswhite gave to swimmer at the pool and away from it.

“He taught people how to be honest and learn from hard situations, but more importantly, find a bright side when life was getting too hard,” Culver said. “Kerry was always there for those who needed help and was a teacher and coach that truly wanted to help every single person he encountered.”
