William & Mary Men, James Madison Women Repeat Victories in CAA

The James Madison Dukes won the overall women's team title, which was their ninth ever and third consecutive

The final session of the Colonial Athletic Association swimming and diving championships went just like last year. The James Madison Dukes won the overall women’s team title, which was their ninth ever and third consecutive. The William & Mary Tribe men took their respective team title for the sixth consecutive year and overall.

Women’s 1650 Freestyle Timed Final

Julianna Jones of James Madison grabbed the win in the timed final of the mile, dropping over 38 seconds from her entry to swim a 16:21.24. Finishing second and third were her teammates Bailey Butler (16:50.40) and Kristie Darmody (16:53.24), respectively.

Men’s 1650 Freestyle Timed Final

William & Mary senior Chris Balbo capped off his final CAA Championships with a win in the mile, going 15:32.38 to win by ten seconds. Second place went to Kevin Basch of Delaware in 15:42.30. Jake McBride from Drexel swam a 15:44.66 to grab third.

Women’s 200 Backstroke Final

Drexel’s Alexa Kutch got the gold here, racing to a 1:55.85. Second place was Isabel Anbar from James Madison (1:58.54), just out touching Northeastern’s Bailey Smith (1:58.56).

Alaina Park of James Madison swam a 2:01.22 to win the B final.

Men’s 200 Backstroke Final

Jason Arthur of Drexel earned first place for his 1:43.88, beating 100 champion Will Countie of UNCW (1:44.63). In third place was Towson senior Owen Robinson (1:46.77).

Spencer Hill from Drexel took the B final in a 1:49.98.

Women’s 100 Freestyle Final

In a battle of upperclassmen, Northeastern senior Megan Clark (48.67) got the close win over James Madison senior Bonnie Zhang (48.91) and UNCW junior Evan Arsenault (49.17).

Natalie Dobrzykowski from Delaware captured the B final in 50.87.

Men’s 100 Freestyle Final

Colin Wright from William & Mary completed his 50-100-200 sweep by winning in 42.19. Teammate Jack Doherty (43.39) and Towson senior Matthew Essing (43.99) rounded out the top three.

Taking the B final was Towson’s Ryan Baldino in 44.74.

Women’s 200 Breaststroke Final

Gab Rudy of Drexel completed the breaststroke sweep, winning a close race over William & Mary’s Megan Bull 2:14.54 to 2:14.62. Megan Sicinski of Drexel was not far behind for third (2:15.04).

Hannah Albanese of UNCW swam a 2:19.25 to win the B final.

Men’s 200 Breaststroke Final

Ben Skopic of William & Mary was the only swimmer to break 2:00, going 1:58.79 to win. Gianmichel D’Alessandro from UNCW placed second (2:00.20), and his teammate Josh Rigsbee took third (2:00.97).

Ryan O’Leary from Towson raced to a 2:02.96 to win the B final.

Women’s 200 Butterfly Final

Megan Cowan of Towson swam 1:58.68 to win the 200 fly, ahead of Delaware’s Mira Selling (1:59.10) and William & Mary’s Rebecca Rogers (2:02.39).

Morgan Whaley from James Madison claimed the B final in 2:04.25.

Men’s 200 Butterfly Final

Paris Raptis of Drexel emerged victorious in a tight battle with Towson’s Nick McClure, with the pair swimming 1:45.53 and 1:45.71, respectively. Connor Forsythe of UNCW was not far behind in third (1:47.48).

Women’s 1m Diving

In a rare feat for a diving, Courtney Klausen of UNCW and Emily Gross of James Madison tied for the victory, each scoring exactly 298.05 points on the boards. Another Duke, senior Hope Byrum was third with 287.85.

James Madison’s Felicity Ryan earned top honors in the B final with a 267.85 score.

Women’s 400 Freestyle Relay Final

The James Madison foursome of Megan Marsh (51.94), Zhang (48.46), Mackenzie Gring (51.15), and Sydney Kirsch (51.13) won the final event of the meet in 3:22.68. William & Mary was a close second (3:23.25), with UNCW not too far behind (3:23.99). Fourth was Towson, followed by Drexel, Northeastern, and Delaware.

Men’s 400 Freestyle Relay Final

In the final event of the meet, William & Mary put together a 2:54.07 to win. The team of Wright (42.44), Christopher Pfuhl (44.52), Doherty (43.45), and Ian Thompson (43.66) defeated Drexel (2:56.80) and Towson (2:57.59). UNCW and Delaware rounded out the field.
