Men’s 100 Fly

For the second time today, DART Swimming’s Gianluca Urlando set a new boys’ 15-16 National Age Group record in the 100 fly. After posting a time of 45.97 during prelims he erased Michael Andrew’s previous record of 46.23 set back in 2015. He became the youngest swimmer to ever crack the 46-second barrier.

He then lowered his own mark during finals, getting his hands to the wall in 45.62. Only a high school junior, that time currently ranks fifth in the NCAA so far this season. He also owns the boys’ 15-16 National Age Group record in the 100m fly.

He currently sits on top of an impressive 15-16 all-time list and owns three of the top-6 times:

  1. Gianluca Urlando, 45.62 (2018)
  2. Gianluca Urlando, 45.97 (2018)
  3. Michael Andrew, 46.23 (2015)
  4. Ryan Hoffer, 46.42 (2014)
  5. Brendan Burns, 46.61 (2018)
  6. Gianluca Urlando, 46.70 (2018)

Peak Swimming’s Ethan Hu powered home to second in 46.25 while Sooner Swim Club’s Aiden Hayes finished third in 46.96 as the only other swimmers in the field under the 47-second barrier.

Chicago Wolfpack’s Bence Szabados (47.35), Rosemead Rapids’ Connor Lee (47.42), Rose Bowl Aquatics’ Danny Syrkin (47.91), Palo Alto Stanford’s Brooks Taner (47.95) and Spring Swim Team’s Dalton Lowe (48.37) rounded out the A-final.

Irvine Novaquatics’ Sean Slusiewicz posted an impressive 47.14 to win the B-final.
