World Junior Relay Record-Holder Adam Chaney Commits to Florida for 2020

NEW COMMIT: USA Swimming National Junior teamer Adam Chaney has committed to the University of Florida. Arguably one of the top recruits in the class of 2020, the Mason, Ohio, native will arrive in Gainesville next fall.

At the 2019 nationals, Chaney finished 23rd in the 100 free (50.34), 12th in the 100 back (55.03), and 15th in the 50 free (22.64). These finishes earned him individual spots in the 50/100 free and 50 back on the 2019 World Junior Championships roster for Team USA.

At Phillips 66 Nationals this past summer, Chaney finished 12th in the 100m back, 15th in the 50m free, and 23rd in the 100m free to secure his spot for the 7th FINA World Juniors Championships. In Budapest, Chaney earned bronze in the 50m free, placed fourth in the 100m free, and finished seventh in the 50m back. He was also a member of the World Junior record-setting 4x100m free relay and mixed 4x100m free relay, as well as the second-place 4x100m medley relay.

No stranger to international competition, Chaney raced to 19th in the 50m free and 24th in the 100m free at Summer Nationals in 2018 to earn a spot on the Junior Pan-Pac Championships. Chaney was the 100m back runner-up, took bronze in the 100m free, placed fourth in the 50m free, and lead off Team USA’s winning 4x100m free relay in Fiji.

A current senior at Mason High School, Adam Chaney is a six-time Ohio State Championship finalist. During his junior season, he won the 50 free and 100 free en route to setting state records in both of those events. The NISCA All-American also won those events as a sophomore after taking third and fourth, respectively, in those events during his rookie campaign.

Chaney does his club swimming with Mason Manta Rays under coach Ken Heis. He won the 50 free and 100 back at Juniors East last winter where he also finished second in the 100 free and seventh in the 200 free. He also earned silver in the 50m free at 2018 Junior Nationals.

He has already achieved three 2020 Olympic Trials cuts:

Chaney is a huge get for the Gators both individually and on relays. His best times in the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free, and 100 back are already fast enough for NCAA “B” standards for the 2019-20 season, and he would’ve scored in the B-final of the 50 free, 100 free, and 100 back at the 2019 SEC Championships.
