NEW COMMIT: Augustus “Gus” Rothrock of Carmel, Ind. has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Tennessee and will join current club teammate Griffin Hadley in Knoxville in the fall of 2021.

Rothrock, who owns five U.S. Open standards, swims year-round with Carmel Swim Club and capped off his stellar summer season at Junior Nationals where he earned 100% best times en route to finishing 13th in the 200m free and 15th in both IMs. Last winter, he recorded a pair of lifetime bests at Juniors East before going on to record six top-15 finishes at Indianapolis Sectionals.

A current junior at Carmel Swim Club, Rothrock is already a four-time Indiana State Championship finalist. The NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American was the runner-up in the 200 free and 500 free as a sophomore while placing third and fourth, respectively, in those events during his rookie season. He helped his team secure their fifth-straight Indiana State Championship title last season and was a member of the record-setting 4×100 free relay.

He told Swimming World:

“I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Tennessee. I’m grateful to my family, friends, and coaches for their unwavering support throughout my journey. Can’t wait to be a Vol!”

In SCY, his best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:39.06
  • 500 free – 4:30.56
  • 1650 free – 15:50.15
  • 200 fly – 1:53.57
  • 200 IM – 1:51.26
  • 400 IM – 3:57.53

In LCM, his best times include:

  • 200m free – 1:52.60
  • 400m free – 4:02.21
  • 1500m free – 16:08.54
  • 100m fly – 56.31
  • 200m fly – 2:02.98
  • 200m IM – 2:06.48
  • 400m IM – 4:28.26

Rothrock has consistently made improvements each season with just under two years of club swimming still to go before arriving at Rocky Top, and he’s fresh off a breakout long course season. When he suits up for the Vols as a member of the class of 2025, he will become a valuable asset for Tennessee in the years to come.
