Virginia Tech Gets Commitment from European Juniors Semifinalist Charlotte Rigg

NEW COMMIT: Virginia Tech has received a big commitment for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Charlotte Rigg of Birmingham, England.

She will join Janika Perezous, Anna SummersMaddy Grafmiller, Julia NappiAva YandleAlexandra Eastmond and Athena Vanyo in Blacksburg as a member of the Hokies’ class of 2025.

She told Swimming World:

“I am SO happy to announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming and academic career at Virginia Tech!! I would like to thank Coaches Sergio and Jacy for this incredible opportunity and the team for making me feel so welcome. I’m also very grateful to my coach, Carl Grosvenor,  and everyone at City Of Birmingham for helping me get to where I am today. I am so looking forward to the next chapter and being a member of the Hokie Family!”

A talented breaststroker and IMer, Rigg trans with City of Birmingham Swimming Club and attends the Solihull School. She was a semi-finalist in the 200m breast at the 2018 European Junior Championships and raced all three breaststroke events at the 2019 World Junior Championships.

She has been on the Swim England National Junior Team for the last three seasons and is also a multi-time British Age Group medallist.

In LCM, her best times include:

  • 100m breast – 1:11.05
  • 200m breast – 2:29.73
  • 200m IM – 2:21.42
  • 400m IM – 4:57.98

In SCY, her times convert to:

  • 100 breast – 1:01.70
  • 200 breast – 2:10.86
  • 200 IM – 2:03.64
  • 400 IM – 4:22.60

Rigg will make an immediate impact when she arrives on campus in the fall of 2021. Her best times (converted to yards) are already fast enough to have scored in the A-final of the 200 breast as well as the B-final of the 100 breast at the 2020 ACC Championships where Virginia Tech finished eighth overall in the team standings.
