TYR Sport Signs American Record Holder Ian Finnerty

TYR Sport is proud to announce the signing of American Record Holder Ian Finnerty.

Finnerty​ ​became the first American man to go sub-26 in the short course 50-meter breaststroke, blasting a 25.99 for a new American record at the recent ISL American Derby meet. A 2019 World University Games team member, Finnerty won the Gold Medal in the 100m breaststroke for a new meet record of 59.49.

“We are excited to add a young talent like Ian Finnerty to our roster of athletes,” said Matt Dilorenzo, CEO of TYR Sport. “With the rich tradition of breaststroke excellence that has come out of Indiana University in recent years, we believe Ian has the potential to do big things in 2020.”

A standout athlete for Indiana University, Finnerty is a four-time BIG title holder in the 100m breaststroke (2016-2019), a two-time NCAA champion in the 100 breaststroke (2018-2019), and a one-time NCAA champion in the 200m breaststroke (2018). Finnerty closed his collegiate career as a fourteen-time All-American.

As a member of team TYR, Finnerty will join sponsored swimmers including Olympic Medalists Katie Ledecky, Simone Manuel, Ryan Lochte, Lilly King, Matt Grevers, Cody Miller, Leah Smith, Tom Shields and Kelsi Dahlia, as well as Olympian Molly Hannis.
