Swim Poll of the Week: 73% Have Not Participated in Swim Meet Since March

This is the Swim Poll of the Week for Thursday October 8, 2020, sponsored by Strechcordz Swim Training Products. In our last poll, we wanted to know: Have you participated in a swim meet since March?

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues around the world, the sport of swimming has slowly gotten its way back to normal. Swim meets have happened sporadically around the globe, with the majority of them consisting of no more than two teams, and only a limited amount of people allowed on deck and in the water. It has become difficult to imagine packed pool decks and warm-up pools of year’s past that were so embedded in our lifestyle, but this is the new normal we have to get used to.

Some clubs have been able to hold swim meets, while others have struggled to find pool space.

In a normal year, October would be the month where high school swimming would be nearing championship season for the fall sports, while other clubs would be reaching the first round of club meets. But in COVID times, nothing is normal. So we wanted to know: have you or your swim team participated in a meet since March?

It’s been difficult to find pool space and get everyone in the water for practice while still adhering to social distancing guidelines, but having swim meets in any capacity is a glimpse of normalcy that swimmers have been craving for nearly seven months.

Here are the results for if people have participated in a swim meet since March:

My son has participated in 2 long course meets. First short course meet is Halloween weekend

Nice, we have not had any official meets since February 2020 in Alberta Canada and none likely until 2021 from what we are hearing from swim Alberta…. with Canadian Trials scheduled for April 2021 meets are needed.. such a sad situation

We just got back into our pool to practice about 3 weeks ago ?

We just had our first inter-squad meet with it broken down by the training group. Format was terrible, as kids got very little rest between their races. Other teams in our LSC offered full sized 3 day inter-squad meets or offered all IMX events. We had 5 events offered and could do 3 races. Some events weren’t really age appropriate, but I guess we will take what we can get at this point.
