008 SUN YANG VS. WADA VERDICT: DAMNING EIGHT-YEAR BAN ENDS CAREER OF CHINESE CONTROVERSY

Sun Yang’s swimming career is over. In a damning judgment, a panel of three senior judges at the Court of Arbitration for Sports handed the Chinese Olympic champion an eight-year ban for violating several anti-doping rules, including chain of custody and tampering. The penalty was not backdated and started in February 2020.

The eight-year ban handed down to three-time Olympic swimming champion Sun Yang by the World Anti-Doping Agency for tampering with a test sample in 2018 has prompted the swimmer’s mother to launch an unprecedented attack on Chinese swimming authorities.

018 SUN YANG SAYS HE WILL ‘DEFINITELY’ APPEAL 8-YEAR BAN

Sun Yang, who was banned for eight years in a Court of Arbitration decision, responded by saying that he will “definitely” appeal to the Swiss Federal Tribunal, the highest court able to consider appeals against CAS judgments. Says Sun, “This is unfair. I firmly believe in my innocence. I will…let more people know the truth.”

019 SUN YANG URGED TO SPILL BEANS ON ‘DARKEST SECRETS’ IN RETURN FOR REDUCED SUSPENSION

Travis Tygart, chief executive officer of the United States Anti-Doping Agency, suggests that Sun could be offered similar witness protection that was given to Russia’s anti-drugs whistleblowers if he agrees to reveal the full extent of what he knows, “including his conversations with doctors, the FINA representatives…and really try to get to the bottom of the allegations.”

020 SOPHIE HANSSON AIMS FOR ANOTHER BREAKOUT AT NCAAs FOR NC STATE

027 JAKE MITCHELL BREAKS NATIONAL PUBLIC SCHOOL RECORD IN 500 FREE

Carmel High School’s Jake Mitchell broke the national public school record in the 500 yard freestyle at the Indiana Boys High School State Championships. His 4:14.68 broke Jake Magahey’s 4:15.63 from last year, which had lowered the oldest public school record at the time—Jeff Kostoff’s 4:16.39, set in 1983.

028 FITTER AND FASTER SWIM CAMPS NAMES TYLER CLARY SALES AND MARKETING DIRECTOR
Olympic gold medalist Tyler Clary joins Fitter and Faster as its sales and marketing director with nearly two years of experience as a business development executive for Chip Ganassi Racing Teams, where he marketed and sold sponsorship for the American auto racing organization.

029 USA SYNCHRO CHANGES NAME TO USA ARTISTIC SWIMMING, LAUNCHES ‘WE MOVE AS ONE’ CAMPAIGN
After 41 years, USA Synchronized Swimming has voted to approve its official name change to USA Artistic Swimming. The organization also launched a new campaign titled, “We Move As One,” which will be used to show off every part of the membership and help grow artistic swimming around the country.

030 TOKYO 2020 OLYMPICS CAN BE POSTPONED TO END OF YEAR UNDER CONTRACT

Japan’s government was told that the contract for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games specifies that the event must be held within 2020, allowing for a possible postponement from July until further toward the end of the year between October and December should the coronavirus emergency make that a safer option.
