Shi Tingmao Dominates Women’s 3m Diving on Seventh Day of World Championships

On the seventh day at the FINA World Championships in the women’s three-meter final event, the top 5 divers stayed in the same position they started in for the whole competition. All the top spots were filled with consistent, veteran divers.

Shi Tingmao, the defending Olympic and World Championship champion on women’s three meter, showed incredible steadiness and composure during the meet. She remained in the number one spot the entire time.

Every one of her dives scored between 76.5 and 79.5 points, precise consistence rarely seen in diving. This is her seventh gold medal at a World Championships.

Shi’s teammate Wang Han followed closely behind her for the duration of the event, finishing only 18 points behind. Wang is no stranger to the World Championships either; she has three gold medals and this will be her fourth silver.

The bronze medal is going home with Australian diver Maddison Keeney, the reigning Olympic bronze medalist in the same event. She received seven-and-a-halves and eights from the judges on every single dive. She finished 23.95 points behind the leader.

Diving continues tomorrow with mixed three-meter synchro and men’s ten meter.
