Minnesota senior Sarah Bacon won her third straight 1-meter diving title on Thursday at the 2021 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships with 357.20 points to back up her titles from 2018 and 2019. Bacon is now the second swimmer to win the 1-m diving title at least three times as she joins Florida’s Megan Neyer with her four wins from 1982-1984 and 1986. This is also Minnesota’s fourth NCAA title in the 1-m after Bacon’s three and Kelci Bryant’s title in 2011.

Bacon was one of just two seniors in the field as she held off a charge from North Carolina freshman Aranza Vazquez (348.45) and 2018 3-m champ Brooke Schultz (335.85) of Arkansas.

“My history on 1-meter gave me the confidence today,” Sarah Bacon said after the race. “With that being said, I want to carry that confidence into 3-meter.”

Texas’ Paola Pineda finished fifth at 329.00 to put Texas in third place in the team standings as the Longhorns are looking for their first top four finish since 2001.

Arizona’s Delaney Schnell was fourth at 334.45 while Indiana’s Anne Fowler (318.65) was sixth ahead of Texas A&M’s Charlye Campbell (294.10) and Miami’s Mia Vallee (289.70).
