Minnesota Sarah Bacon backed up her 1m diving title on Friday night at the 2021 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships in Greensboro with a win in the 3-meter springboard as the only to break 400 with 408.60.

Bacon won her first 3-meter title at NCAAs as she now has four individual titles total in her career, taking three 1-meter titles in her three collegiate years. Bacon finished ahead of ACC trio Aranza Vazquez (384.75) of North Carolina, Camryn Hidalgo (356.40) of Georgia Tech, and Emma Gullstrand (355.30) of Miami as Vazquez and Gullstrand are both freshmen.

“My coach helps me stay calm between dives, and we have been working on consistency on 3-meter the whole year. It is exciting to finally show it in that performance,” Sarah Bacon said after the race. “I am feeling better than ever, and diving-wise, I think I look better than ever, so I am going to use these events to help me motivate me forward toward the Olympic trials.”

Texas’ Paola Pineda (351.10) finished in fifth to put Texas one point behind NC State for second place with just the 200 medley relay to go tonight.

Purdue’s Emily Bretscher (345.30), Texas A&M’s Charlye Campbell (343.30) and Nebraska’s Abigail Knapton (342.90) also competed in the championship final.

Minnesota now has four national titles in the 3-meter diving as Sarah Bacon joins Kelci Bryant (2010) and Yu Zhou (2015, 2017) as winners of the event for the Golden Gophers.
