Princeton Tigers Shoot Their Shot, Land Verbal Commitment From Mitchell Schott

NEW COMMIT: Princeton University has received their fourth verbal commitment* for the 2022-23 season and beyond from Mitchell Schott of Newport Beach, California.

He will join Lucas Tudoras, Conor McKenna and Lucas Strobek as a member of the Tigers’ Class of 2026.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I chose Princeton for its high rigor of academics and athletics. Throughout my recruitment process, I talked with many coaches from great swim programs across the country. Princeton rose to the top of those conversations because it promised a high-level swim program and an incoming roster and a future of swimmers who mirror my lifelong goals in the pool. In addition, Princeton will offer the academic and educational resources that will allow me to pursue my course of study and continue leadership goals in multiple areas of my life. I am extremely excited to swim for Matt and Abby, and I am looking forward to what I will do as a Tiger!”

Schott does his club swimming in California with Irvine Novaquatics and most recently competed at Junior Nationals – West last month where he placed 16th in the 200m IM, 17th in the 200m free, and 18th in the 200m fly. He also finished sixth in both the 200m and 400m free at the TYR 18&U Spring Cup in Irvine back in the spring.

In Summer 2019, he was part of three NAG record-setting relays for the boys’ 13-14 age group: 4×100 free, 4×200 free, and 4×100 medley relay. The latter of the three still stands to this day.

His best times include:

200 free – 1:37.72
500 free – 4:25.79
200 fly – 2:01.18
200 back – 2:01.06

Schott currently attends Culver Military Academy in Indiana where he is a Regimental Commander. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American finished third in the 500 free and fourth in the 200 free as a junior at the Indiana State Championships.

Under head coach Matt Crispino, Princeton finished second at the 2020 Ivy League Championships behind Harvard. Schott would’ve scored in the B-final of the 200 free at the conference meet two years ago.
