Navy Scores Class of 2025 Verbal Commitments from Caroline Irwin, Jennifer Luong

NEW COMMIT: The United States Naval Academy has received a pair of verbal commitments for their growing class of 2025 from Buford, Ga. native Caroline Irwin and Jennifer Luong of South Riding, Va.

Both swimmers will join Danielle “Dani” Ghine and Katie Wong in Annapolis at the start of the 2021-22 season.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I could not be more excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the United States Naval Academy. I am so grateful for this incredible opportunity and all of the support from my family, friends, and coaches. I can’t wait to arrive in Annapolis in the summer of 2021 and join the amazing group of women that NWSD is. Go Navy!! BEAT ARMY!!!”

Her best times include:

  • 50 fly – 25.39
  • 100 fly – 54.76
  • 200 fly – 2:00.50
  • 50 free – 23.79

Primarily a butterflyer, Irwin does her club swimming with SwimAtlanta and owns a pair of Junior National standards. She most recently placed eighth in the 200 fly at Juniors East in December and earned three best times at the Southern Premier Invitational last short course season. This past summer, she was the 50m fly runner-up at Georgia LCM Seniors.

Also competing for Buford High School, Irwin is a six-time Georgia 4-5A State Championship finalist. The NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American won the 50 free and was the 100 fly runner-up during both her sophomore and junior seasons after earning silver in both of those events during her rookie campaign.

She told Swimming World:

“I’m incredibly excited to announce my verbal commitment to the United States Naval Academy to continue my academic and athletic careers. I couldn’t have done it without the support of my family, coaches, teachers, teammates, and friends. I’m so excited to be a part of a team that shares the same values as me. Go NAVY!”

Her best times include:

  • 50 fly – 25.52
  • 100 fly – 55.12
  • 200 fly – 2:03.55
  • 200 IM – 2:03.46

Also a talented butterflyer, Luong swims year-round with Nation’s Capital Swim Club and recently earned four best times with four top-20 finishes at Potomac Valley Seniors. Last summer, she registered three lifetime bests at Potomac Valley LCM Seniors where her highest finish was a 14th-place showing in the 100m fly.

A current junior at Freedom High School, Luong is a six-time Virginia Class 5A State Championship finalist. She finished third in the 200 IM and fifth in the 100 fly as a junior while taking fifth in the 100 back and sixth in the 100 fly during her sophomore season.
