Mizzou Picks Up Fall 2021 Verbal from Freestyler Will Whittington of Saint Croix Swim Club

NEW COMMIT: Oak Park Heights, Minn. native Will Whittington has selected the University of Missouri for his college career; he announced his verbal commitment via College Swimming.

He will join Calvin Windle, Grant BochenskiEthan RoachTy Spillane and Cade Oliver as a member of the Tigers’ class of 2025.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“Extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Missouri. I’d like to thank my family, friends, coaches, and teammates for the endless support. I am beyond blessed to have received this opportunity and I am excited to be a part of such a great family! GO TIGERS!! ??”

A talented freestyler, Whittington swims year-round with Saint Croix Swim Club and is a Junior National qualifier. He most recently earned four best times at Minnesota Seniors after placing 20th in the 200 free at Juniors West. Last summer, he had a strong showing at Minneapolis Sectionals before going on to register four top-18 finishes at NCSAs.

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 20.85
  • 100 free – 45.95
  • 200 free – 1:38.99
  • 500 free – 4:30.65
  • 1000 free – 9:29.50
  • 1650 free – 15:41.85

Also competing for Stillwater Area High School, Whittington is a four-time Minnesota Class AA State Championship finalist. He grabbed bronze in the 500 free and raced to fourth in the 200 free as a sophomore while taking fourth and sixth, respectively, in those events during his freshman season.

Whittington will add valuable freestyle depth to the Tigers’ lineup when he arrives on campus at the start of the 2021-22 season. Under head coach Andrew Grevers, Missouri finished fifth overall in the team standings at the 2020 SEC Championships.
