ISL Match 9 Preview: Collision Course for Trio of Top Teams — Energy Standard, London Roar, Toronto Titans

The International Swimming League (ISL) season continues with Match 9 from Naples, Italy, with the meet running Thursday and Friday, beginning at 2 p.m. ET (20:00 CET, 11 a.m. PT, 3 p.m. JST). It will see Energy Standard face off against the London Roar, Toronto Titans and DC Trident.

It will be the second consecutive ISL head-to-head match for Energy Standard and the London Roar, two of the top teams in the league since its inception.

Meet coverage

These two teams have brought a lot of star power to the pool with the London Roar led by Emma McKeon, Kyle Chalmers, Duncan Scott, Alia Atkinson, Annie Lazor and Kira Toussiant.

Energy Standard continues to get big points from Siobhan Haughey, Sarah Sjostrom, Chad le Clos and Ilya Shymanovich. Haughey continued to dominate the 200 freestyle with her Match 8 win, going 1:52.50, the fastest time of the season so far. She is yet to be defeated in the 200 free in ISL competition over three seasons.

But Energy Standard also showed its depth in the ISL Match 8 victory with swimmers like Mary-Sophie Harvey finishing in the top three in four events, including three in one day (with a win in the 200 IM).

Meanwhile, the Toronto Titans have had a surprising surge this season, winning one of their matches this season and nearly knocking off the Cali Condors in Match 7. The team is putting together strong performances, led by Louise Hansson, Marius Kusch, Lisa Bratton, Kylie Masse, Finlay Knox, Kayla Sanchez, Kasia Wasick, Luc Kroon and Blake Pieroni.

One of their top swimmers, Summer McIntosh, raced in a couple of meets before the 15-year-old had to return to Canada to start her high school year.

The DC Trident have also had some strong races, led by Jacob Pebley, Maria Temnikova, Tommy Cope, Ryan Hoffer, Andreas Vazaios and Ali DeLoof. They will try to put together their best performance of the season, and will need it agains three of the top teams in the league.
