ISHOF Induction On Schedule; Fort Lauderdale Mayor Says No Event Cancellations

marriott-fort lauderdale

The mayor of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Dean Trantalis, announced in a press conference on Friday that the city has no plans to cancel any events due to the coronavirus outbreak, including the upcoming International Swimming Hall of Fame induction ceremony. The enshrinement proceedings, along with the Paragon and Specialty Awards, will be presented April 24-25 at the Hall of Fame.

During the press conference and in a letter sent from his office, Trantalis discussed the importance of being vigilant in response to the spread of the coronavirus around the world. He emphasized regular hand-washing, avoiding close contact with anyone showing respiratory difficulties and staying home when feeling sick.

“Our staff in cooperation with event promoters and public safety personnel are working to implement additional precautionary measures to minimize the spread of germs at public events,” Trantalis wrote in the letter he released. “These include making sure we have additional hand-washing and hand-sanitizing stations at events, as well as additional cleaning and maintenance staff.”

About ISHOF

The International Swimming Hall of Fame (ISHOF) museum opened its doors to the public in December of 1968 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. That same year, the Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA) – the governing body for Olympic aquatic sports – designated the ISHOF museum as the “Official Repository for Aquatic History”.   In 2018, Sports Publications Inc, publisher of Swimming World Magazine and its multi-media platforms, merged with ISHOF to expand the museum’s reach and impact.  Today, ISHOF’s vision is to be the global focal point for recording and sharing the history of aquatics, promoting swimming as an essential life-skill, and developing educational programs and events related to water sports.  Show your support for the sport of swimming by becoming a member of ISHOF.
