UConn Press Release – Men

BOSTON  – The UConn men’s swimming and diving team split Friday’s meet at Boston College by capturing a 198.50 – 98.50 victory against Boston College and lost to No. 26 Duke, 166 – 128.

Senior Will Kearsey led the way for the Huskies with his swims in the 100 Back, 100 Free and 100 Fly. The Wheathampstead, England native posted his best times of the season in all three events. With his first place time of 48.48 in the 100 Back, he bested his 30th ranking nationally time of 48.50 coming into the meet.

In the 100 Free, Kearsey posted a time of 45.48 to capture first place, this mark placed him 37th nationally in the event. Finally, in the 100 Fly, his time of 50.56 was a season-best and landed him in third place.

“Similar to the women’s meet, our men’s performances tonight were solid,” said head coach Chris Maiello. “We weren’t perfect, however we raced hard, showed some toughness in our swims and came out with a victory over BC. Our depth showed tonight in multiple events, and I think that was what helped us overcome a night where we were not at our best. Overall our performance are encouraging at this point in the season. Credit to Will for winning two events in the back and 100 free. Those are solid times for him.”

Sophomore North Hansen earned a pair of runner-up finishes on Friday in the 500 and 1000 Freestyle. His time of 4:34.59 in the 500 Free set a new season-best.

The 400 Free relay team closed out the meet on a high note with a first place time of 3:06.19. Kyle Dunlap, Jack Muratori, Emils Jurcik and Josh Wroblewski led the Huskies to victory that included the fastest leg of the season for Jurcik with a mark of 45.88, his best leg of the year.

BOSTON – The UConn women’s swimming and diving team split Friday’s meet at Boston College by defeating BC, 152 – 147, and losing to No. 19 Duke, 166 – 128.

Freshman Mia Galat had a career-day for the Huskies by capturing a victory in the 200 Free. Her time of 1:52.08 was a career-best. The Andover, Mass. native also notched a third place finish in the 100 Fly.

“Tonight was a good road win vs an improved BC team,” said head coach Chris Maiello. “It’s always difficult to win on the road and our team was down for most of the meet. Credit to our women who stayed the course and raced tough all afternoon. Our girls kept their composure and when we were up by one point going into the last individual event our IM swimmers did a great job of putting the meet out of reach. The 1-2-3 finish against BC in the 200 IM sealed the win and allowed us to swim loose in the last relay.”

Ryan Dulaney posted a pair of season-bests in the 500 and 1000 Free. The Huskies All-Conference long distance performer raced to runner-up finish in the 1000 with a mark of 10:17.24 and followed it up with a 5:02.50 in the 500.
