NEW COMMIT: NC State University has scored a new verbal commitment for their growing Class of 2025 from Kenna Smallegange of Burlington, Ontario.

She will arrive in Raleigh in the fall of 2021 along with Lindsey Innel, Annabel Crush and twins Caroline and Grace Sheble.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming and academic journey at North Carolina State University! I am so grateful to be surrounded by amazing people that have helped me to get where I am today and look forward to another great adventure. Let’s go Pack!! ?”

A talented distance freestyler, Smallegange trains year-round with Burlington Aquatic Devilrays. At the Winter Ontario Youth Junior Championships in March, she won the 1500m free, finished second in both the 400m and 800m free, and placed third in the 200m back. She grabbed bronze in the mile at the Ontario Junior International meet in December where she achieved three best times.

  • 200 back – 1:59.69

Last summer, she collected gold in the 800m free and silver in the 1500m free at the Canadian Junior Championships. Smallegange swept the 400m/800m/1500m free at the Ontario Summer Provincial Championships after winning the mile at the Eastern Canadian Championships.

She competed at the Canadian Swimming Trials in April 2019 where she placed sixth in the 1500m free and 13th in the 800m free.

Smallegange will make a huge impact when she suits up for the Wolfpack next year. Her best time (converted to yards) is already fast enough to score in the A-final of the 500 free as well as place in the top-14 of the mile at the 2020 ACC Championships.
