Cali Breaststrokers Ethan Hildesheim and Aidan Simpson Will Stay In-State, Verbal to UC San Diego for 2021

NEW COMMITS: The University of California, San Diego has recently scored a pair of verbal commitments for the Tritons’ class of 2025 from Ethan Hildesheim and Aidan Simpson, both of San Marcos, Calif.

ETHAN HILDESHEIM

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I’m excited to announce my verbal commitment to UC San Diego! Thank you to my family, friends, and coaches for their unending support during the recruitment process; and a special thank you to the UCSD team for helping me make one of the best decisions of my life! Go Tritons!!!”

Primarily a breaststroker, Hildesheim does his club swimming with Rancho San Dieguito and owns two Junior National standards. He most recently had a pair of top-20 finishes at Carlsbad Sectionals after placing 16th in the 100 breast at Juniors West. Last summer, he competed in four events at Mount Hood Futures.

His best times include:

  • 100 breast – 55.43
  • 200 breast – 2:01.99
  • 50 free – 21.53

Also competing for Mission Hills High School, Hildesheim finished 16th in the 100 breast at the 2018 CIF State Championships. The two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American is also a four-time CIF San Diego Section Championship finalist.

AIDAN SIMPSON

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of California San Diego. I am so proud and excited to become a Triton and to swim for such an outstanding program at UCSD! Thank you to my family, coach, and friends for your support. GO TRITONS!!!”

Also a talented breaststroker like his future training partner Hildesheim, Simpson swims year-round with Inland Coastal Aquatic Club and has achieved four Junior National cuts. He raced to 10th in the 200m breast at College Station Sectionals and took 22nd in that event at Juniors West. He placed 23rd in the 200m breast at Junior Nationals last summer as well.

His best times include:

  • 100 breast – 56.93
  • 200 breast – 2:01.05
  • 200 IM – 1:49.97

A current junior at San Marcos High School, the two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American finished 14th in the 100 breast at the 2019 CIF State Championships. Simpson is also a four-time finalist at the CIF San Diego Section Championships.
