Leah Smith was among the nominees for the Breakout Performer of the Year at Monday night’s Golden Goggles after Smith won a pair of NCAA titles in March and then two Olympic medals in August.

Before the awards show Monday night, Smith explained in an interview what it meant to be on a relay with the likes of Allison Schmitt, Maya DiRado and Katie Ledecky and how she has adjusted back to college life post-Rio. She also explained why she decided to take a month off from swimming after the Games and how she thinks that has helped her and what her reaction was to losing all three of her NCAA records to Ledecky.
