To cap off a record-setting weekend, Florida’s Caeleb Dressel became the first swimmer to ever crack 40 seconds in the 100 free. On the final night of the 2018 NCAA Championships, the senior posted a blistering 39.90 to break his own NCAA and American record.

Dressel, whose 13th swim in three days was his record-breaking 100 free, talked about embracing the pain and said there are no shortcuts in the sport of swimming. Even though his swims this weekend seem superhuman, Dressel reminds us that he is in fact human and is exhausted after a long — but successful — meet.

He also discussed moving into his next chapter now that his collegiate days are completed. He says he’s just getting started in the sport and is focusing on the summer after a much-needed week of, saying that “long course is where the big boys come out to play.”
